How to transform your bedroom into a luxury refuge

The bedroom is our private retreat within the home, an area away from the rest of the household where we can unwind in peace. Celebrate the idea of this space being a sanctuary and transform your bedroom into a luxury refuge with a design that pampers your body, mind, and soul.

Upgrade your fabrics

Begin by upgrading your fabrics. Choose high-quality materials that look plush and are soft to the touch.

Velvet is especially sumptuous, both visually and texturally. You can be bold with lavish velvet curtains or subtle with velvet cushions and a blanket. Silk is a great choice for adding shine to your overall design. Consider fitting your bed with silk sheets, but be aware that special care must be taken when washing silk to keep it looking and feeling as good as new.

Elevate your colour scheme

There isn’t one colour that’s more luxurious than another: it’s the richness of the hues and the balance and pairings between the shades that give luxury interiors their edge.

Elevate your colour scheme by having a neutral base and featuring your chosen shades as accents in the décor. The neutral foundation will ensure the room remains calming, promoting good rest.

If you do want to go bold, dare to be dramatic with a deep shade that invites sleep. Choose a colour that has foundations in nature like blue or green to maintain a peaceful atmosphere

Indulgent furnishings

Once you have your foundations in place, consider your furnishings. These will make the biggest difference in taking your bedroom design to the next level.

Revamp your clothing storage space by converting your cupboard into a walk-in wardrobe and add a dressing table with a bulb-lit mirror for a touch of old-world glamour. Go big with your light fittings such as suspending a chandelier or other ornate shade above the bed.

You could also introduce an armchair or a futon for a private sitting area that’s all your own.

Make a statement

Last but not least, don’t be afraid to make a statement. This is key to making your interior design extra-special and setting it apart from standard cookie-cutter styles.

Why not treat yourself to the royal treatment with a king-sized four-poster bed with a carved headboard and perhaps even some curtains to create your private retreat.

The easiest way to make a statement is to hang some evocative artwork on your wall. This could be a series of smaller pictures laid out in a random but regulated pattern or one large piece that takes up most of the wall on its own.
