My Current Skincare Routine

I started to write a simple post about my skincare routine because I’m often asking on Instagram, but as usual I got carried it away and it became a short novel. If you want to see some of my recommended products, understand what different ingredients are for and get a basic introduction to creating a skincare routine then check out my simple skincare routines for beginners post.

Below is just my current basic skincare routine for those interested, and I will post an IGTV video to go along with this post soon. At the moment I’m not using any extra treatments or Retinols. My skin is normal to oily, often dehydrated if I let my routine slide. Prone to hormonal acne. I highly recommend reading Caroline Hirons routines cheat sheet too.

Morning Skincare Routine

Cleanse – I use different cleansers depending on how I’m feeling/what I pick up first. Some of my favourites are listed in my skincare post. Usually I use something like The Body Shop Camomile Butter in the AM.

Glycolic Acid – It’s often recommended that this is used in the PM only, start slow with acids and build up if you need them. I use this by putting some on a pad and applying to my face

Hydrating Spray – I love Superdrugs Hyaluronic Facial Spray mentioned here.

Hyaluronic Acid – I usually use The Ordinary HA or the Marine Hyaluronics. For this one I pour a little into my hand and pat on my skin.

Any treatments would go here. If my skin is particularly spotty I like to use Niacinamide and/or Azelaic Acid.

Oil – If I’m going to be wearing make up that morning I will only use a very small amount. Currently using The Ordinary Rose Hip or Borage Seed, the Sukin Rose Hip is my favourite though.

Moisturiser should go here, I just currently can’t find one I like that sits well under makeup and I find my oil and HA gives enough hydration. If you have dry skin you will want to use one.

SPF – using Piz Buin currently but haven’t found one I love

Make up comes next, I will write another post or create a video on that ASAP but my make up is super basic.   After that I use my absolute favourite product – St Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist (Amazon link, click here to buy from Boots). I worked with St. Tropez on a paid campaign for this product last year, and have repurchased several times since then. I actually set up a Subscribe and Save order on Amazon for it because I love it so much. It adds the perfect amount of colour to give me a great glow and also contains Hyaluronic Acid so adds hydration too. Spray under or over make up and the colour will develop over the next 4-8 hours (I usually find it works faster than that)

Evening Skincare Routine

Basically the same, but with a very important double cleanse.

First Cleanse – to remove makeup and SPF, I like to use The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil or Boots Botanics Hydration Burst Cleanser

Second Cleanse – Absolutely essential especially if your skin is dull or dehydrated. The best thing I did for my skin was introduce a double cleanse. I’m currently using my fav Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Cream, Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser or Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which is great for sensitive skin.
